The City of Bentonville has been long overdue for a skatepark worthy of being located in one of the wealthiest corners of the country and it is finally coming to pass. The selected contract company for this job is California Skateparks, who has been tasked to build what is only described to be as a monumental shift in the skatepark scene here in Arkansas. Since the inception of Gnarkansas, we have closely followed the development of skateparks being built in our area and we couldn't be more enthused to see California Skateparks working in Arkansas. for the very first time.
At the end of 2019, Walmart announced the donation of 75 acres for future park development. 23-acres was previously donated by the Walton family helped establish nearly 100 acres, located west of the intersection of Southwest 8th and Southwest I streets. The "Wheels Sports Garden" park is proposed to cover roughly 40,000+ square feet and features a variety of elements that are sure to thrill skaters. The park was designed by California Skatepark designers, led by Zach Wormhoudt, Principal Landscape Architect, who have a reputation for creating innovative and challenging skateparks around the world.
One of the standout features of the new Bentonville skatepark is its large bowl section. The bowl is designed to mimic the feel of an empty backyard pool, with steep walls that provide a layer of separation for skill levels and ride types. This section is sure to be a favorite among local skaters looking for an old school vibe. In addition to the bowl, the park also features a street course area that includes rails, ledges, and other obstacles that mimic the types of features skaters might encounter on the streets. This section is great for skaters who are just starting out and looking to hone their skills and not feel pressure from more experienced skaters on larger obstacles. This aspect of design is aimed with safety in mind with plenty of space for skaters to spread out and avoid collisions.
